Getting Out of Paying Bailiffs Fees on Your Court Fine

Get the cash together and pay the fine at court and GET A RECEIPT.

Go to the court and pay the fine using the automated payment machine in the lobby. Court ushers are on hand to advise you how to use it and remember to get a receipt. This extinguishes the power conferred under the warrant of control.

If the Court Service sends you a cheque refunding you the fine, then bank the cheque because the money is yours to keep. Nothing in legislation enables court staff to revive a warrant of control.

Deploy these notices inside your front door and outside your property.

Send this letter to the bailiff company and copy in the Court Manager at the Magistrates' Court.

Always copy in your MP. It is unlikely Parliament intended regulations to be abused by private companies to defraud debtors in this way.

If the bailiff contacts you again, then show him the receipt through a window saying the fine is paid. The bailiff might get shouty but he knows there is nothing he can do.

Call police on 999 and show the above letter through a window and get the bailiff to show the police the certified copy of the warrant (the bailiff is required to carry it with him when he attends a defaulter's address).
